Forest Fragmentation and Land Use Change

This course is designed for an audience seeking to broaden their knowledge and gain a basic background in land use and forest fragmentation issues. Specifically, the course is geared toward: Foresters, natural resource professionals, extension professionals, and planning professionals hoping to learn more about forest fragmentation, land use change, land use change modeling, forest metrics, GIS databases, and planning issues associated with land use change.

Provides an introduction to the following topics:

  • forest fragmentation and land use change;
  • causes of fragmentation and land use change;
  • methods of measuring land use change;
  • methods of measuring forest fragmentation;
  • impacts on wildlife resulting from land use change;
  • impacts of forestry resulting from land use change; and,
  • exploring planning questions associated with land use change.

Course pre-requisites:

There are no course pre-requisites.

What do successful graduates earn?

This course will take approximately 1 hour. In order to complete this course, you must successfully pass the online exam at the end of the course with a score of 70% or higher. The exam will be graded immediately upon submission. If you pass, a certificate will be sent to the email address provided during registration. If you do not pass, you will be able to retake the exam one additional time.

With a passing grade, you will earn 1.5 Continuing Forestry Education (CFE) credits.
